Local Huntington Medicare Expert
"If you're a patient at Huntington Hospital or part of the Northwell system through NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group, the plan you choose matters a lot. Not every Medicare Advantage plan in Suffolk County keeps those providers in-network. I check every single one before I make a recommendation. I've lived here for over 25 years — I know this community, I know these hospitals, and I know which plans actually work for Huntington residents."

Why So Many Plan Choices Matter

Does the plan include your doctors and specialists?

Which hospitals are in-network (Huntington Hospital, NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group, John Wagner, MD, Huntington Medical Group, etc.)?

What are the true out-of-pocket costs (copays, coinsurance, annual maximums)?

Are your prescriptions covered, and at what tier?

Which extra benefits actually matter to you (dental, vision, hearing, OTC)?

How does the carrier rate for customer service and claims support?

Huntington Medigap Carriers I Represent:
Huntington Unique Medigap Advantages
Understanding Medigap Pricing in Huntington
- Medigap plans in New York are designed to keep pricing straightforward and fair. Premiums are not based on your age, which helps provide predictable costs over time and fewer surprises as you get older.
- Community-Rated Plans: Everyone pays the same premium, regardless of age
- Stable Pricing Structure: Rates don’t increase just because you get older
- Clear Comparisons: Easier to compare plans across carriers apples-to-apples
Guaranteed Issue Protections
- New York offers strong consumer protections for Medigap buyers. In many situations, you can enroll in or switch a Medigap plan without medical underwriting.
Important: While age doesn’t affect Medigap pricing in New York, premiums can still change due to inflation and rising healthcare costs. That’s why I help you focus on carriers with strong rate stability and long-term value.
Most Popular Medigap Plans for Huntington Residents
Plan G
Best for: Those who want predictable healthcare costs and broad coverage.
High Deductible Plan G
Lower Monthly Premiums
Provides the same benefits as standard Plan G, but with a higher annual deductible. Once the deductible is met, the plan covers eligible costs just like regular Plan G.
Best for: Healthy individuals who want strong protection with lower monthly premiums.
Plan N
Offers lower premiums than Plan G with modest copays for some office visits and emergency room care. A solid middle-ground for those comfortable with small out-of-pocket costs.
Best for:
Those looking to balance savings with dependable coverage.

Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans in Huntington, NY
Finding the Right Part D Plan
The “best” Part D plan isn’t always the one with the lowest monthly premium. It’s the plan that covers your specific medications at the lowest total yearly cost. A plan that looks inexpensive upfront can end up costing more if your prescriptions fall into higher tiers.
I'll Help You Compare:
- Whether your current prescriptions are covered in Huntington, NY
- How your medications are classified (generic vs. brand-name tiers)
- Your estimated total annual cost (premiums, deductibles, and copays)
- Preferred nearby pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, and local Huntington pharmacies)
- If and when you may enter the Medicare Part D coverage gap (“donut hole”)
Important: Part D plans update their formularies (drug lists) every year. Reviewing your plan annually helps ensure you’re still getting the best value.
Bring your prescription list, and I’ll run a personalized Part D analysis to help you find a plan that fits your medications and budget.

Common Medicare Questions from Huntington Residents
Get answers to the questions I hear most often from Medicare beneficiaries in Huntington
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Medicare Advantage plans often have lower monthly premiums and extra benefits, but use provider networks. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans offer more flexibility to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, with higher monthly premiums. The right choice depends on your doctors, health needs, and budget.
Plan options vary by Huntington neighborhood because Medicare plans are based on county, ZIP code, provider networks, and local hospital participation.
You can check if your doctor or hospital is in-network on a Medicare Advantage plan in Huntington, NY by using the plan’s provider search tool or contacting the plan directly.
Yes. The shingles vaccine is covered under Medicare Part D. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs can vary by plan, which is why reviewing your Part D coverage is important.
Most people pay no premium for Part A if they’ve worked long enough. Part B has a monthly premium set by Medicare each year, along with deductibles and coinsurance. I’ll explain current costs and how they affect your overall plan choice.
Yes — I help all areas of Huntington, NY, including Cold Spring Harbor, Greenlawn, South Huntington, and the surrounding communities.
My Medicare services are available throughout the entire Huntington area and nearby towns.
Yes — you can switch Medicare plans if you’re not happy, but usually only during specific enrollment periods (like Open Enrollment or Special Enrollment).
Outside those times, changes are limited unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment due to certain life events.
t depends on your carrier, and this has changed a lot this year. HealthSpring, formerly Cigna’s Medicare business, terminated its entire network relationship with Northwell Health, meaning Huntington Hospital has been out-of-network for HealthSpring Medicare Advantage members since January 1, 2026. Wellcare also chose not to renew its contract with Northwell, and as of July 1, 2026, Huntington Hospital and all Northwell facilities are out-of-network for Wellcare members, though established Wellcare patients could continue treatment through August 29, 2026 with authorization. If you’re on either of these plans and see a Northwell doctor, it’s worth a call to check where things stand.
Medicare supplement plans in NY are all community rated and guaranteed issue. These two factors make it difficult for the insurance carriers to mitigate risk, It also plays a big factor in the amount of carriers who offer plans in NY. The lack of competition and high utilization are the real reasons for higher rate increases.
Plan G is one of the most popular Medigap plans in Huntington, and for good reason — it covers nearly everything Original Medicare doesn’t, so there are very few surprises. But “best” really depends on you. Some Huntington residents do just as well with High Deductible Plan G, which has a lower monthly premium and covers the exact same benefits once you hit the deductible. It really comes down to whether you’d rather pay more now for predictability, or pay less now and set aside savings for the deductible. I always walk clients through both before they decide — there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here.
Medicare Advantage plans often have a $0 premium and include extras like dental and vision, but you’re usually limited to a specific network of doctors and hospitals. Medigap plans (like Plan G) cost more monthly but let you see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, with very predictable out-of-pocket costs. Which one fits depends on how you use healthcare, what doctors you want to keep, and what you’re comfortable paying.
Most people can make changes during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7 each year. If you’re on a Medicare Advantage plan, there’s also a second window, January 1 through March 31, where you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or move back to Original Medicare. Outside of those windows, changes usually require a qualifying life event.
Good news: you’re not stuck until next Annual Enrollment. A network loss like this typically qualifies as a Special Enrollment Period, meaning you may be able to switch plans right now rather than waiting. This is exactly the kind of situation worth a quick call rather than guessing.
No, and this trips people up. The hospital and the doctors who practice there aren’t the same thing — the hospital is the building, and each doctor independently decides which Medicare Advantage plans they accept, so it’s possible for your plan to cover the hospital but not the specific specialist reading your test results.
